Your invitation to Kindle

Kindle 2013
November 15th -17th 2013

Would you rather take it easy? Or do you love a challenge in life? Would you like to be the same as everyone else or do you like to stand out from the crowd? Do you want to go with the flow or rebel against the culture of low expectations?

Have a think about that…

They say it is difficult to be a Christian today especially if you are young. I think people have probably always said that. It’s never been easy to be a Christian. Our culture says one thing – but Jesus is calling us to something else.

What is that something else? And is it difficult?

What we want to do at Kindle is to let you know about what Jesus is saying. You don’t have to be a Christian to come. Everyone is welcome. But if you want to hear what Jesus is saying – we want to try our best to communicate this to you.

The other thing is that when people say that it “must be difficult being a Christian when you are young” – sounds a bit patronising to me and an excuse to fail. What we want to do is tell you what it’s about and have a place at Kindle where we can encourage each other and then go back where we live - and rebel against low expectations.

Jesus talks about Christians being salt to the world. Salt in those days had two key properties. The first was that it was put onto meat to stop it going off. It was therefore a preservative. Jesus wants Christians to be a preservative in society – to stop society “going off”. The other thing salt did was that in those days there were no flushing loos. Instead when you did your business you would then get a scoop of salt and cover what you did with the salt! This stopped infection spreading. In the same way, Jesus wants Christians to stop society getting worse by being a Christian in the world and standing for what is right – in other words rebelling against low expectations.

You up for that? A bit of a challenge? I am and so are a load of leaders – but could do with a few others to join us. So if you want to know more – give me a call on 01202 775499 or email me on rwbarker@aol.com.

Love to see you at Kindle.
